Another summer has flown by! School supply shopping has begun, vacations are winding down and another Summer Break program is about to end.
Remember that Sunday, August 12 is the last day you can enter reading time and/or activities in your account. Participants have until Saturday, August 18 to pick up milestone incentives (while supplies last).
- Wendy's Jr. Frosty coupons (earned at sign-up)
- Fine waiver cards (earned at sign-up; 10 hours, 15 hours and 20 hours of reading)
- Summer Break completion incentives (Babies/Children: a book; Teens: choice of a book or Library drawstring bag; Adults: a Library tote bag)
Giving makes the world go 'round
Many of you may have noticed that you earned a "Giving Makes the World Go Round Badge." Participants earn this badge when they reach 25 hours of reading. Every summer, the Library gives back to the community by donating books to a local organization in need.
This year's recipient will be the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, an organization that provides "a safe, affordable and caring 'home-away-from-home' for families of children receiving treatment in Charlotte-area medical facilities." The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte will receive books appropriate for babies through upper elementary age children, and will distribute the books to families who are suing their services.
Thank you to all participants whose reading has contributed to this donation. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has donated books to the Ronald McDonald House in the past, and are thankful they are able to accept contributions again this year.
Each week during Summer Break, the Library gives away three 16GB Kindle Fires. Prizes are drawn by age category with one Kindle Fire each for babies/children, teens and adults. Remember that to be eligible, you need to enter either reading time or an activitiy online each week to be eligible for prize drawings, and you must have a valid library card number or ONE Access account number entered in the library card field of each participant's Summer Break account. Keep an eye on your email account as this is how you will be notified if you win.
Congratulations to the following winners who have claimed their prize within the last week:
- Adults: Velma T. (Beatties Ford Road Regional), Kasey W. (Main Library)
- Teens: Austin T. (Plaza Midwood), Abby H. (Davidson), Hailey W. (Cornelius)
- Babies/Children: Alicia S. (ImaginOn)
