Kids Fest 2018: Coming Soon!

Kids Fest is Sept. 22.

Dora and Diego have just walked by and children are giddy, everyone preparing to take pictures with them. The Cat in the Hat is about to start reading his book.

This isn’t some magical, fictional story land, though, it’s close!

This is Kids Fest, and the free celebration returns for the second year on Sept. 22 from 11 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Before coming, read the stories below (all available at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches) featuring some of characters who will also be there! The books come in different formats, such as print and eBooks. Don’t have a Library card? September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, so be sure to sign up online, or come into your local Library branch, with an identification card or piece of mail with your current Mecklenburg County address on it to acclaim your free card.

Our favorite feline, The Cat in the Hat, will be at Kids Fest, so be on the lookout for some mischief! In this classic Dr. Seuss tale, a cat visits two children on a rainy day and gets them into trouble with tricks and games. Not only does the Library have this book, but we also have it in different languages and formats. Tap this link for more.

Of course, you can’t have Kids Fest without Pinkalicious! The original Pinkalicious book is about a little girl who eats so many pink cupcakes, she eventually turns, well, pink! Because Pinkalicious is so popular, author Victoria Kann has since published many more books about the same girl - Aqualicious, Purplicious, Emeraldalicious. There are many easy readers about Pinkalicious, and even a book about her brother, Peterrific.

Everybody’s favorite boy wizard will also be at Kids Fest! J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter will be casting spells this year but, thankfully, Lord Voldemort will not. Along with all seven of the original books from the series, the Library has the stories in different languages, books about the books, plus more. Have you read The Unofficial Guide to Crafting the World of Harry Potter? You can even check out the script for the Tony Award-winning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Don’t forget to check out the movies and soundtracks as well. As Hermione says, “When in doubt, go to the library.”

Along with these characters, Charlie Brown, Dora and Diego will also be joining us.

See you at Kids Fest!
