Before there was a Nicki, a Remy or an Angel Haze there was Salt 'N Pepa, MC Lyte, and Queen Latifah.   

Fierce, fearless females entered the 1980s rap game, made their mark on music with their own individual styles, and paved the way for today's rapping divas.  From Roxanne Shante's  "Roxanne's Revenge" to J.J. Fad's "Supersonic," female rappers were producing hit songs and cementing lasting legacies.  Celebrate Women's History Month and #ThrowbackThursday with a sampling of some of these pioneering ladies of hip-hop:
