Another school year is drawing to an end and summer break will be here before you know it. The next few weeks will be filled with final exams, end of the year projects, field trips and preparation for summer camps and vacations. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is here to help your family survive and thrive!
1. Homework help
Library cardholders get free homework help from a live, online, qualified tutor - up to 10 free tutoring sessions each week! Tutor.com is available from home, school and the Library to K-12 students, college students and adult learners. Help is available in English (daily from 4 p.m. to midnight) and Spanish (Sunday-Thursday from 4-10 p.m.) in a wide range of areas such as math, science, English, social studies, essay review, GED preparation, resume review, job searching, interview preparation and citizenship preparation. (Librarian tip: some branches also offer one-on-one homework help!)
2. Take practice tests
Learning Express Library is an interactive database with more than 25 practice tests ranging from the GED and ASVAB to standardized exams for students and professionals. A wide range of subject areas are covered in English and Spanish.
3. Help with language classes
Your library card provides access to Pronunciator, a language learning service covering 80 languages, which could help boost your child's Spanish grade. This service provides a range of language skills, including reading, writing, listening and speaking.
4. Audiobooks, e-books, movies and music
Once your child has used the above resources to ace their exams and finish those projects ahead of schedule, find some time to relax by downloading an e-book, audiobook, movie or music through one of the Library's digital resources. And, of course, if you need to get out of the house, you can always visit one of the Library's many locations to check out an actual book (or movie or music!).
5. Live summer to the fullest with Summer Break: Read, Learn, Explore
Don't just survive the end of the school year. Use Charlotte Mecklenburg Library to really thrive. All you need is a library card. (Librarian tip: If you are a student at Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system, your student ID number is already a ONE Access library account, giving you access to all of the resources mentioned above!)
