active reading

Día programming for 2020 has been cancelled. Check this page for future program updates.

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Active Reading

Active reading involves reading a book with a child rather than reading a book to a child. Active reading works with children from as young as six months through sixth grade (for younger children you'll want to focus more on the pictures). This research-based approach improves children's language skills, vocabulary, and ability to understand what they read on their own.
