Our Brand Promise

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library's brand features a vibrant and exciting look that celebrates the world of possibilities every member of our community discovers when they use the public library. It’s a look we hope inspires each of us to think “I can” when we think of our Library.

Our brand was provided as a gift from Wray Ward, a leading local creative marketing communications agency, because they believe in the value of the Library to the community, and wanted to help us better tell our story.

Library History

The roots of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library can be traced to 1891 when, during a period of Charlotte history characterized by boom and civic pride, a group of prominent citizens organized the Charlotte Literary and Library Association. This subscription library operated in rooms above a bookstore on South Tryon Street for nine years, under the direction of Librarian Bessie Lacy Dewey.
