Harold Escalante

A passionate leader, Harold Escalante, has been with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for 10 years. Harold loves when he gets to help others – especially communities that aren’t often represented. As someone who believes in the importance of being a voice for the voiceless, Harold holds tight to his motivation.

What’s his why? “We over me,” he says. “I always reflect on this principle to remind myself that the work I do is not about me but the community I serve.”

Pamela McCarter

As Equity Initiative Leader / Library Outreach Specialist, Pam McCarter has been with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library over 25 years. She takes pride in her work. Pam has worked around diverse communities for a long time and, during that time, she's learned untold stories are what make people think, live or behave differently. She doesn't believe in judging anyone without know their full story. 

Kim Sykes-Joseph

Library HR Director, Human Resources Leader, Kim Sykes-Joseph plays favorites with books – in fact, she has three! The Wedding by Dorothy West, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston and Reaching Back by Nea Anna Simone are all titles she holds close to heart.

A self-described “bridge builder,” Kim is most passionate about being the support structure people need, so they can cross over and find a clearer path, personally and professionally.

Kathy Scott, Library Deputy Finance Director

Kathy Scott has been with the Library for two and a half years. Her personal mantra is “Every journey begins with a single step.”

Meryle Leonard is most passionate about equity and opportunity, especially for children. She has been with the Library for more than 25 years.
