Marcellus "MT" Turner
Marcellus Turner, better known as MT, is passionate about libraries as both institutions and welcoming spaces for community dialogue, support, and exploration. He has enjoyed a storied career of more than 30 years as a leader in academic and public libraries across the country. MT boasts that he started working in libraries in the 4th grade and has been hooked ever since. Before joining Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in 2021, he was the CEO of The Seattle Public Library. MT earned his master’s degree in library science from the University of Tennessee and bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women.
MT’s professional passions include working to make libraries more socially conscious, ensuring they operate as 21st century organizations, planning for the future of libraries, and using libraries as community venues for cultural and civic engagement and discourse. In his spare time, MT enjoys listening to a good audiobook, traveling, great food, and women’s basketball.
