Join Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, the Charlotte Hornets and the Grant Williams Family Foundation as we Block Out Time to Read this summer! From June 14 to August 16, 2025, join us as make reading a part of your daily routine. We invite you to celebrate the joy of reading through daily reading and personalized book choices for all ages.
What Counts as Reading?
You can read anything you like for any length of time. We just want you to read! You can read to yourself, to someone else or have someone read to you. Just a sampling of what you can read includes books, magazines, newspapers, websites, email, comics, blogs or listen to audiobooks.
Incentives
Sign up to earn a Wendy’s Junior Frosty coupon. Then, earn a trip to the Summer Reading Treasure Box after reading for 15, 30, 45, and 60 days! Visit your local library to collect incentives and check out more books. All prizes are while supplies last.
Experience Drawings
Children and teens (age 5 to 18) who read for 45 days will be entered into special experience drawings. Winners will be notified by email.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library wants to encourage kids of all ages to read over the summer. This is the perfect time to read for fun! No assigned reading here, but librarians are here to help if you need a suggestion.
By reading over the summer, children and teens will:
- Develop a life-long reading habit
- Read and learn for pleasure
- Learn to love the library
- Prevent summer learning loss
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Grow their imagination
- Encourage new ideas
You can sign up for Summer Reading by visiting your local branch to pick up a reading tracker - or print one out here. If you would prefer a digital tracker, simply visit cmlibrary.beanstack.org or download the “Beanstack Tracker” app by Zoobean.

The Library would love for you to read every day, all year long! To be eligible for all incentives, you need to read for at least 15 days with incentives available on 15, 30, 45, and 60 days.
Just for signing up you earn a Wendy’s Junior Frosty coupon. You will then earn a trip to the Summer Reading Treasure Box after reading for 15 days, 30 days, 45 days and 60 days! Visit your local library branch as you reach each milestone, collect your incentive and check out more books to continue on your reading journey. After reaching day 45 of reading children and teen participants will be entered into an experience drawing.

To claim your sign-up and milestone incentives, you must visit a library branch no later than Saturday, August 23, 2025. Ask any staff member and they will guide you to the right desk for picking up your incentives.
