It is important to have the right information and support to keep yourself, or someone you love, well. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Novant Health are pleased to partner on the Novant Health Wellness Hubs at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library locations. This initiative helps create a sustainable impact by addressing community member’s health and social needs, so every person can achieve their highest level of health.

Speak with a Novant Health team member at no cost at the locations and dates listed below:

The Novant Health Wellness Hub at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is not open on holidays or during library closures.

The Novant Health team member can help you better understand your needs and connect you to the right health, wellness, and social services.

This will include appointment scheduling for doctors and medical services, as well as referrals for:

· Access to affordable care

· Medication assistance

· Counseling access

· Housing information

· Food resources and more

Children's Lucky Day Collection at ImaginOn and Sugar Creek!

Customers can now visit ImaginOn and Sugar Creek Library to check out books from the Library's Children's Lucky Day Collection! 

The Children's Lucky Day Collection is a collection of highly popular books that are available for immediate check-out. It is made up of popular graphic novels and chapter books that are often checked out. 

These collections will always goes back to ImaginOn and Sugar Creek and will not be discoverable in BiblioCommons. The goal is for customers to walk in and discover it. 

One important change we are making to both Lucky Day Collections is increasing the number of checkouts from three to up to six items per account. The check out period will be the same as other materials (3 weeks), but renewals will not be allowed. We want as many readers as possible to enjoy the collection. Good luck!

Public Early Voting Hours 

Weekdays: 10/17 – 11/1, 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays: 10/19, 10/26, & 11/2; 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Sundays: 10/20 & 10/27,  1p.m. – 5 p.m.

The Library Celebrates World Refugee Day!

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.

The Library wants use this chance to share its resources from WelcomeCLT, specifically its immigration resources page. From naturalization to resettlement communities and world languages, the WelcomeCLT has a number of resources at your disposal.

Newsbank provides library customers with digital access to The Charlotte Observer. Databases can be searched separately as well as together. Articles are searchable by name, keyword or phrase.

Included in our access:

  • Charlotte Observer (Historical access, 1886-1984) is an image database.*   
  • Charlotte Observer, The (NC) is a text database** and provides access from 1985 to the current date. 
  • Charlotte Observer, The (NC) 2018-current is an image database.*  Use this option to view the daily paper.
  • Charlotte Observer: The Blogs (NC) is a text database** that includes all the blogs published by the Charlotte Observer from 2005 to current.
  • Charlotte Observer, The Web Edition Articles (NC) are available from 2007 to current.
  • Charlotte Post, The (NC) content is available from 2006 to current.
  • Charlotte Semi-Weekly Observer (1892-1892).

     * Image database: When you view or select a date, phrase, etc. the results will show an image of the article as it appeared in print.

     ** Text database: A text database provides access to the text of the article, but it does not include images or display that article as it appeared in print.

How to access The Charlotte Observer content with your library card:

  • Use the ACCESS NOW link below.  You will be prompted to enter your library card or ONE Access account number.
  • Choose which database you want to search.  Options are on the left side of the page under Shortcuts.  Click “Charlotte Post” or “Charlotte Observer Historical and Current”.
  • If you select “Charlotte Observer Historical and Current” you can search both databases using the search box at the top of the page.  If you want to search a specific year, review the options listed under "Source" and click the link to the Charlotte Observer that contains the year you would like to search.
  • Articles can be printed, saved as PDF or emailed.
